a place to play and create...

i recently did a big overhaul of the art/playroom. we were using this as a "schoolroom" too but it got to be too much. too much stuff and too much going on, equals one big mess. i didn't even want to go in there, which isn't really conducive to learning! so, i moved most of the "school" related stuff into the front library and we are using both rooms throughout the day. i still need to paint but for now it is a lot better. i spent two weeks cleaning out everything we didn't need or want anymore. i made two big bags for donation and three big trash bags. we organized art to keep in two bins, one for each child, and games, puzzles, etc in the closet (which i'm realizing i forgot to take a picture of, i'll have to add one). the book shelf is full of books and toys, plus various activities i pulled out of the closet and are now being used more regularly. i set up a doll/kitchen area for sid (and soon tess). she loves playing there, especially when friends come over and i am happy she is still really into that type of play. we have our big art table cleared, with art supplies hanging on the wall and organized on the shelves next to it... where we also have our nature table. the wall is full of the kids art, which we all love to see. we also have the couch in the middle where we can watch movies and other things together. it's a very nice space so far, and i'm looking forward to painting it to finish it off (well, not actually to painting it but when it is painted!). we also have more room for fun things like making paper mache volcanoes!

What a wonderful space! I have always fantasized a "studio" for Annabelle, but we've never had room. Maybe when/if we buy a house in Asheville. There's a big, old, unlivedin house not far from where we live now--looks like a dollhouse, and I have fantasies. :-)

i have always dreamed of owning a a house like this too. i feel so grateful everyday. the fantasy was much easier than the reality though! i wouldn't trade it but a leaky roof, old pipes, and squirrels nesting in the wall are all challenges! sometimes i miss being able to call the landlord to deal with it:)
